Andhra Pradesh's Chintapalle records season’s lowest temperature at 7°C

Chintapalle in Alluri Sitarama Raju district shivered at 7°C on Monday, the coldest morning of the year. Several other areas in the district also recorded single-digit temperatures. Dense fog reduced visibility, impacting road traffic and prompting residents to stay indoors, affecting businesses' operating hours.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chintapalle in Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district experienced the coldest morning of the year, as Chintapalle recorded a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius on Monday, December 16.
This was the second time this season that Chintapalle recorded a single-digit minimum temperature, according to the Regional Agriculture Research Station (RARS) at Chintapalle, the primary weather station in the ASR district. Chintapalle recorded a minimum temperature of 9.4 degrees Celsius on November 28.
Dr A Appala Swami, Associate Director at RARS, Chintapalle, said the mercury levels dipped below 9°C in many parts of the ASR district on Monday.
As per the Agromet Field Unit (AMFU), G Madugula in the ASR district recorded 4.1°C, followed by 4.8°C at Araku Valley, 7.3°C at GK Veedhi, 7.8°C at Hukumpeta, 9°C at Pedabayalu, and 9.4°C at Ananthagiri on Monday.
Parts of Andhra Pradesh experienced a winter chill on Monday. This marked the third consecutive day of chilly weather, as the minimum temperatures dipped in parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh as well as the Rayalaseema regions in the state.
Dense fog blanketed Chintapalle, Paderu, Araku Valley, Pedabayalu, Mimumuluru, and a few other locations in the ASR district on Monday, lowering visibility to 100 meters and affecting road traffic movement in the morning hours.

The plummeting mercury was making life miserable for locals in parts of the ASR district during the night and early hours. While most people preferred to stay indoors after sunset, business establishments were opening late and shutting down early in the night.
