RAJAHMUNDRAY: West Godavari police made a major breakthrough in the delivery of a dead body parcel case, which created a sensation in the district.
The police identified the deceased as Barrey Parlayya (45), whose body was delivered in a parcel. They also identified the woman who delivered the dead body parcel through an auto driver.
It may be recalled that Sagi Tulasi received a parcel on 19 December, thinking it was a parcel of electrical appliances. She was shocked to see a decomposed body in a wooden box in Yandagandi village under Undi mandal. The police suspect that Chekuri Sridhar Verma, the brother-in-law (husband of the younger sister) of the woman who received the parcel, is the culprit in this case.

They suspect Chekuri Sridhar as he was absconding since the delivery of the dead body, and his multiple SIMs have been switched off since then. Moreover, the police collected many pieces of evidence against him. There is reportedly a family dispute over the property of a couple of acres of agricultural land and some gold ornaments.
The motive behind this incident might be to scare Sagi Tulasi from her parents’ home and take total control over the property. Sridhar had two marriages and is having an affair with another woman. He is on the run, and the police launched a manhunt for him by forming multiple teams.

Talking to the TOI, West Godavari SP Adnan Nayeem Asmi said that Barrey Parlayya (45), a native of Gandhinagar in Kalla Mandal, was married to Eswari for 25 years, and they were blessed with two male children. He further said that he consumed alcohol daily due to quarrels with his wife, and they lived separately for 15 years. After that, he stayed on the roadside and in temples. On 15 December, the deceased worked at Sridhar’s first wife’s house in the village, after which he went missing.

Locals last saw the deceased on the bullet bike of the accused, Chekuri Sridhar, on the evening of 15 December. Deceased relatives and neighbours identified the deceased by the clothes he was wearing, which were given wide publicity on social media. The accused might have chosen a lonely person in the village, as no one would lodge a missing complaint even if he went missing.
Speaking further, the SP said that a woman named Vijaya Lakshmi handed over the parcel to an auto driver who delivered the dead body to Tulasi in Yandagandi on 19 December. He mentioned that she came in a red Chevrolet car wearing a scarf and gave the wooden box to the auto driver, which was recorded on a CC camera.

This woman reportedly has a relationship with the accused person, and she has a 24-year-old daughter. He explained that Vijaya Lakshmi is the same woman who spoke to the victim, Sagi Tulasi, on the phone, claiming she was from Kshatriya Seva Samithi and sent her paints and tiles in two shipments for the construction of the house. The police identified her voice with the help of voice call recordings.
The SP made it clear that the crime and the role of the accused persons have been established, and it should be corroborated with the arrest of the prime suspect. The police would uncover the motive behind this ghastly act.
