VISAKHAPATNAM:
Andhra Pradesh on Friday registered 38 more Covid-19 positive cases, taking the overall tally in the state to 572. So far, the neighbouring state has reported 14 deaths.
Among the 38 fresh cases, 13 are from Kurnool, six from Nellore, five each from Anantapur and Chittoor, four each from Guntur and Krishna, and one from Kadapa. Guntur and Kadapa have so far contributed 126 cases each, followed by Nellore (64 cases), Krishna (52) and Prakasam (42).
The state government on Friday discharged 15 patients in Kadapa and Anantapur districts.
They include a 10-year-old boy. Three patients were cured and discharged from GIMSR in Visakhapatnam. There are currently 520 active cases in the state with 14 deaths, while 38 patients have been discharged after treatment. A ward volunteer also tested positive in Vijayawada, becoming a cause for concern for officials as she may have come in contact with several people during her field visits.
Vijayawada city accounts for more than 40 cases out of the 52 cases registered in Krishna district.
The trend is similar in Guntur district as more than 90 Covid-19 patients belong to Guntur city out of the 126 cases registered in the district.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government has directed the Covid-19 treating hospitals to set up a hospital/ institution-level Covid-19 control committee to prevent the outbreak in hospitals and hostels, and to safeguard the health of medical personnel.
The committee will frequently monitor disinfection and sanitation activity in hospitals and hostels of doctors and faculty attached to hospital and medical college. While principal of the medical college will be the chairman, the superintendent and other medical and non-medical personnel will be members of the committee.
