VISAKHAPATNAM: The Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC) has achieved another milestone as it has got the organic certification for coffee and black pepper from the Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). This certification would provide scope for the higher price of the coffee and pepper.
APEDA has given the organic certification for coffee and pepper crops cultivated by 1,300 farmers on 21,104 acres in the Gondipakalu, Lammasingi, and Kappalu clusters in the Chintapalli division.
GCC managing director G Suresh Kumar said that the process of organic certification for the coffee and pepper is being cultivated on 3393 acres by 1300 farmers in GK Veedhi, Pedavalasa, and Erracheruvulu clusters in GK Veedhi mandal. The certification is expected to be issued by the end of January 2004.
GCC sources said that the third-party verification, online verification of each and every matter, online registration, Geo-tagging of each farmer’s farm field, and also updating all these details in the APEDA portal are herculean tasks. The GCC officials successfully processed all these details in time, resulting in the organic certification, the GCC MD said.
