Andhra Pradesh: Four held for assaulting engineering student

SRIKAKULAM: The Srikakulam district's Rajam police on Monday took four youngsters into custody on the charges of attacking an engineering girl student of GMR Institute of Technology, Rajam.
The victim was admitted to a local area hospital wherein her condition is stable.
The incident occurred on Sunday night but came to light on Monday morning.
Based on a complaint from the victim, the police registered cases Section 354(A), 354(D), 509 and 323 under IPC against the four youngsters J Harish, K Venkatesh, D Upendra and S Ganesh, residents of Rajam town.
The victim is native of G Sigidam of Srikakulam district, and is studying her engineering second year at Rajam.
According to the police, the victim came to Rajam town from her college on Sunday night to have dinner. Three of her college friends including two boys accompanied her for the dinner.
While returning to the college after dinner, Harish, one of the accused, held the victim's hand in an inebriated condition.
Immediately, the victim's friends intervened into the scene to protect her.
Harish then called his three accomplishes and had an argument with the victim and her friends. The victim got minor injuries at her abdomen.
On being alert, the police rushed to the spot and took the four into custody.
"All the four accused were in drunken state at the time of the incident. We took the four into the custody." Rajam circle inspector Somasekhar told TOI that the investigation is underway.
