About 10,000 AP government employees, including 1,000 police personnel and 500 disaster response personnel were deployed along the north coastal belt. A helicopter has also been kept on standby at Kakinada coast for emergency operations.


Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had a teleconference with collectors of four districts on Sunday to complete the cyclone preparedness activities. The plan is to reduce losses during the landfall.

Naval aircraft are ready at the Naval Air Stations INS Dega and INS Rajali to undertake reconnaissance, rescue, casualty evacuation and air drop of relief material to the stranded as required.

Besides the government machinery, Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam is ready for rescue and relief, according to a release. Naval aircraft have flown 11 sorties along the East coast to broadcast warnings to fishermen at sea of the cyclone, and advise them to return to the nearest harbour.

Meanwhile, farmers in Krishna and Godavari deltas are working round-the-clock to save the paddy crop in about 1.2 lakh hectares in the delta. Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, ESL Narasimhan, who visited the Goddess Padmavathi temple at Tiruchanoor on Sunday, said the AP government has taken all precautionary measures and to tackle cyclone Phethai.
