Visakhapatnam: Sports lovers here lauded noted orthopaedic surgeon Dr SV

, who was awarded the Padma Shri. The award was announced on the eve of the Republic day.
The doctor, who has performed more than 3 lakh corrective surgeries and 10 lakh procedures to help the polio-affected, was a good sportsman during his student days and is responsible for keeping football alive in this region.
Thanks to his efforts since 1980s, players from Visakhapatnam and Andhra secured jobs. The then famous Visakha Trophy tournament, where top teams of the country participated, was a regular affair and he also managed the

Along with his wife Dr R Sashiprabha, a reputed gynaecologist and former Director of medical education in AP, he provided free treatment to many sportspersons.
