VISAKHAPATNAM: A group of city lawyers are asking for the abolition of the AP Legislative Council at the earliest, stating that it was an unwarranted expenditure on the government. The government is likely to move a resolution to dissolve the Legislative Council in the Assembly this week.
Kuppili Muralidhar, a senior advocate and the president of Forum of Legal Professionals, said, “There is an urgent need to abolish the AP Legislative Council in order to curtail wasteful expenditure in view of the financial constraints faced by the state.”
However, advocate Abdul Raqueeb said that the LC is needed to put a system of checks and balances on the Lower House and ruling party.
