VISAKHAPATNAM: The Vizag city police arrested 52-year-old Pilla Sridhar, a resident of Carrolton, Texas, near Dallas in US) in connection with the suicide of a 48-year-old NRI woman K Roja.
It may be recalled that Roja, a software professional in the US was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the washroom of a hotel under Three-Town police station limits in Vizag city. Though the incident occurred on March 6, it came to light on Saturday (March 8).
The investigation has revealed that both the victim woman and Sridhar hailed from Vizag city.
The police said Sridhar is a native of Vizag city but residing in the USA working as a freelancer in medicine teaching., came to Vizag city on Feb 18 this year.
Several years ago, one woman got acquainted with him on his insistence. The woman also lived in the USA and she came back to Vizag on Feb 14, this year and he forced her to meet in a hotel in Vizag city on March 6.
The woman died by suicide in the washroom of the hotel room. The investigation has revealed that Sridhar abetted her to commit suicide.
Initially police have registered a case under Section 194 of BNSS (suspicious death due to hanging), now they have altered to sections 108, 77, 78 (2) of BNS (abetment to suicide, disseminating private images of a woman without her consent, stalking ) and section 67-A of IT Act (punishment for publishing or transmitting sexually explicit material electronically). The police produced Sridhar before the court seeking to send him for remand.
