Andhra Pradesh: 40-year-old ends life after wife ‘elopes’

VISAKHAPATNAM: A 40-year-old man committed suicide after recording a selfie video blaming his wife, one Naveen, and the police for his death at Narsipatnam in Anakapalle district on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as K Durga Prasad.
Police said Durga Prasad killed self by hanging in a shed near Sravanthi water plant. Durga Prasad claimed in the video that his wife Lakshmi eloped with Naveen a few months ago.“I had approached the police requesting them to initiate action against Lakshmi, Naveen, and another person who supported Naveen. But police didn’t register my complaint,” Durga Prasad says in the video.
He also alleged that Lakshmi worked at a shopping mall where Naveen trapped her. Police failed to arrest Naveen and another person, he added. Dismissing the allegations of Durga Prasad, Inspector of Police Srinivasa Rao said Durga Prasad was addicted to liquor. His first wife got divorce from her alcoholic husband around five years ago. Durga Prasad married V Lakshmi around three years ago but he didn’t mend his ways and used to harass her. Unable to bear harassment, Lakshmi approached the police in February.”
Though we counselled Durga Prasad, he continued to consume alcohol and harass her. We didn’t receive any complaint related to the disappearance of his wife, Srinivasa Rao added.
