The overloaded bike plunged into the canal near Gudimellanka. While Nageswara Rao and Suguna managed to swim their way to safety, Patnala Krupa, Meduri Bhargavi and Meduri Kiranmayi drowned. Local people and fire department personnel fished out the bodies of Krupa and Bhargavi while the search is on to find the other body. Malkipuram SI Rama Rao is investigating the case.
Elsewhere, police raided a milk production unit at Ayyaparajugudem village in Lingapalem mandal in the early hours of Tuesday and seized adulterated milk and milk products.
The owner of the unit, Mutineni Suresh, has been arrested. The accused used to procure milk from local farmers and used to adulterate it before supplying it in the market. Police also adulterated milk powder packets, oil packets and butter. All the stock has been seized while the production united has been sealed. The samples have been sent for lab tests.
