160 kg ganja seized, four smugglers held

The Bucchaiahpeta police arrested four ganja smugglers and seized a about 160 kg of the contraband worth around Rs 12 lakh that was being transported to Anakapalle from the Visakha agency area via Vaddadi in Bucchaiahpeta mandal on Wednesday.

BUCCHAIAHPETA (VISAKHAPATNAM): The Bucchaiahpeta police arrested four ganja smugglers and seized a about 160 kg of the contraband worth around Rs 12 lakh that was being transported to Anakapalle from the Visakha agency area via Vaddadi in Bucchaiahpeta mandal on Wednesday.
The police arrested the four smugglers, including one Tamilian, and seized a car in which they were transporting the ganja, with a two-wheeler and cellphones. They were identified as K Paul of Tamil Nadu, K Chakravarthi of Vizag, P Kondababu of G Madugula and M Kondala Rao of Paderu.
During routine vehicle checking, the police intercepted the car, in which three persons were travelling, in Vaddadi area and seized the contraband that was being transported in the vehicle in bags
. Another member on a two-wheeler, who was guiding the car, was also nabbed.
Bucchaiahpeta SI SA Munaff said that the material was procured from parts of the Visakha Agency and was being transported to Anakapalle. The smugglers were planning to transport the ganja to various parts of TN.
A case has been registered under Section 20 (B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act against the culprits. The SI said they had got further information from the accused about another 300 kg of ganja being stored in a house at Aganampudi on the Greater Visakha outskirts, which they would raid with the help of the Vizag city police.
