16-year-old rape victim dies after giving birth in Andhra Pradesh; accused at large
CHITTOOR: A 16-year-old girl from Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district succumbed following childbirth. The girl was allegedly raped and impregnated by an unidentified perpetrator who remains at large, as per official reports.
On Monday, Palamaneru police reported that the victim was studying in class 10 at a local school in Palamaneru constituency. She became pregnant following an alleged sexual assault by an unidentified person.
She was initially taken to a local medical facility and subsequently transferred to Palamaneru Hospital due to health complications. As her condition deteriorated, medical staff referred her to another facility, where she delivered a male child.
The girl's health worsened due to severe anaemia and breathing difficulties, prompting her transfer to RUA hospital in Tirupati. Despite medical intervention, she passed away on Sunday, according to medical staff.
Law enforcement has initiated proceedings under POCSO Act and continues their search for the suspect.
Earlier on February 14, a young woman in Gurramkonda Mandal, Annamayya District, Andhra Pradesh, fell victim to a brutal acid attack allegedly by her male classmate. Officials reported that the assailant also wounded her with a knife.
