15 nominations filed for standing committee posts

VISAKHAPATNAM: Around 15 nominations were filed for 10 posts in the Standing Committee of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) on Monday. The last date for the filing of the nomination is Tuesday (July 30). Till Saturday, not a single nomination was filed though the filing of nominations was opened on July 22. So far, 17 nomination forms have been issued and 15 candidates, including nine from TDP, five from YSRCP, and one independent candidate have filed their nominations.

The candidates who filed nominations are Akkaramani Rohini (12th ward), Reyyi Venkata Ramana (51), Imran Mohammed (66), J Bhipin Kumar Jain (31), and Murru Vani (57) of YSRCP. TDP corporators S Rajasekhar (56), Bommidi Ramana (90), Nolli Nookaratnam(19), Galla Polipalli (63), Pilla Mangamma (7), Balla Srinivasa Rao (94), Lakshmibai Puli (75), Golagani Veerarao (27) and P Varaha Lakhsmi Narasimham (98) and an Independent Villuri Bhaskara Rao (35) are in the contest.

The TDP, Janasena, and BJP leaders met on Saturday and Sunday to finalize alliance candidates for the posts. The NDA alliance has now gained numbers following the joining of corporators of YSRCP. Now, the numbers of the NDA alliance and YSRCP are more or less equal and targeting to grab all 10 standing committee posts. A few more corporators of YSRCP are allegedly planning to change the party colours, but the TDP and Janasena have not given clearance to date, sources said.
