VIJAYAWADA: A priest of was beaten up by women at Bhavanipuram in the city on Sunday. Dispute between the priest and a member of the temple management committee is said to be the reason behind the attack.
The attacked Kota Pavan is a priest in HB Colony’s Saitrishakti temple. According to cops, Pavan and temple management committee member Mohan Reddy had some disputes and Reddy reportedly asked Pavan to leave the temple premises over which Pavan lodged a police complaint.
On Sunday, Mohan Reddy’s daughter alleged that Pavan had misbehaved with her while she was going to see her father.

Later, Reddy’s daughter and wife came to the temple with some other women when Pavan was getting ready to perform puja. They sprinkled chilli powder at him, beat him up and tore his clothes. Other priests at the temple had to intervene and rescue Pavan.
Later, Mohan Reddy’s daughter lodged a complaint againt Pavan. In turn, Pavan also lodged a complaint against his attackers. Cops have registered cases against both the complaints. Police are now looking into CCTV footage.
