Vijayawada: A woman working as a mate (supervisor) under the
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Viparitalapadu village of Chandarlapadu mandal died by
suicideafter allegedly facing continuous harassment from a field assistant. The woman, identified as Abburi Madhuri (39), consumed pesticide after recording a selfie video, exposing the alleged corruption in the scheme and naming the accused.Madhuri's video message alleged that field assistant Maila Raviteja manipulated work records by marking absent workers as present and inflating job counts by showing a single labourer working in multiple sites, to draw excess wages fraudulently. When she questioned these irregularities, Raviteja started harassing her in various ways.Distressed by the situation, Madhuri recorded a video message before consuming pesticide on Saturday. In the video, the woman expressed admiration for chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and local MLA Tangirala Soumya, saying she feared the party's image was being tarnished due to rampant
corruption in rural employment works. She appealed for justice, demanding action against Raviteja, and requested that deputy CM Pawan Kalyan took note of such issues. She also pleaded for support for her daughter's future.
