Tirupati: A 26-year-old woman, Rehana, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her home on Patel Street in Kadapa after her fiancé forced her to call off their marriage.
According to Chinna Chowk SI Prathap Reddy, Rehana had completed her MSc and was engaged on Feb 15 to Bengaluru-based techie Shahjahan, a native of Proddatur. Their wedding was scheduled for August.
In a 12-page suicide note, Rehana wrote that Shahjahan repeatedly told her he had "no feelings" for her, disliked her completely, and admitted to past relationships with four other women.
Distraught over his behaviour, Rehana slipped into depression and hanged herself on Wednesday. Police shifted her body to RIMS, Kadapa, for postmortem.
Her parents alleged Shahjahan's behaviour changed drastically in recent weeks. "He confessed to alcohol addiction, multiple girlfriends, and said he was forced into marriage by his father. He bluntly told our daughter that he disliked her. This shocking behaviour pushed her into depression and she took the extreme step," they said, appealing for action against him.
Based on her father's complaint, Chinna Chowk police registered a case and launched an investigation.
