Woman injured in chain snatching incident dies

A 60-year-old woman who was receiving treatment after she fell off a moving two-wheeler when two chain snatchers tried to grab her gold chain, died on Monday. The incident happened on Saturday near Panakala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Mangalagiri.

Vijayawada: A 60-year-old woman who was receiving treatment after she fell off a moving two-wheeler when two chain snatchers tried to grab her gold chain, died on Monday.
The incident happened on Saturday near Panakala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Mangalagiri. She was admitted to the hospital after she sustained severe head injury and was in critical condition.

She underwent a surgery before she breathed her last.
According to the police, Ganapathy Shiva (35), a constable attached to the anti-corruption bureau, along with his wife Lakshmi Durga and mother Ganapathy Jaya Lakshmi had gone to the Panakala Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Mangalagiri on Saturday. While they were on way back on a two-wheeler, two unidentified persons followed their vehicle. When the duo tried to snatch Jaya Lakshmi’s gold chain from her neck, she resisted, and in the impact, she fell on to the ground and sustained a severe head injury.
She was immediately rushed to a hospital and doctors performed a surgery. However, her condition remained critical and, on Monday, she died while receiving treatment.
Police registered a case under Sections 394 and 302 of IPC and launched a manhunt for the accused.
