VIJAYAWADA: Sensational bodycam footage has emerged of Jahnavi Kandula from Kurnool being struck and killed by a police car in Seattle, USA. Jahnavi was killed on January 23 this year while crossing the street. She was fatally run over by a Seattle police car driven by Kevin Dave.
According to FOX 13 Seattle, in the body camera video, a loud rumble of the engine was heard as Kevin’s speedometer shows speeds of up to 74 mph (119 kmph).
Kevin was also heard saying “I ****** up” in the video and performing CPR on Jahnavi after the accident. Aloud engine noise could be heard in the bodycam video as Kevin’s speedometer registered as much as 74 mph, much higher than the prescribed limits of 20 to 25 mph.
“Lights were on. I was chirping the sirens…she was in the cross- walk. She saw me, she started running through the crosswalk. Slammed on my breaks. Started staying back where she should before crossing,” Dave can be heard in the video telling a responding officer.
In other bodycam footage, Dave can be heard saying, “I can have a hundred minutes. I could have…there’s nothing for me to do right now, but sit. And that is the ******* worst thing that… you just have to sit here. So many questions that are unanswered, so many questions".
The office of police accountability continues investigating whether Dave complied with department policy.
According to the US media, the prosecutor’s office said a decision on possible charges will likely come by early August.
The 23-year-old woman Jahnavi was hit while walking near Dexter Avenue North and Thomas Street just after 8 pm on January 23. She was rushed to Harborview Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries.
Jahnavi is the elder daughter of Vijayalakshmi and Srikanth who hailed from MIG colony in Adoni of Kurnool district.
