Winners of naming contest felicitated

Tirupati: Vidyasagar Daud and Ananyo Bhattacharya who won the ‘Exoplanet host star naming contest’ in December, 2019 were felicitated at the inaugural session of the

ASI

meet in Tirupati. Daud is a student of Class 8 while 20-year-old Anonyo is pursuing engineering.

Daud said that he suggested the name ‘Santamasa’ for the exoplanet. Meanwhile, Anonyo Bhattacharya who won after naming the exoplanet Bibha told TOI that Bibha is the Bengali pronunciation of the Sanskrit word Vibha which means a bright beam of light. “The name also honours Indian physicist Bibha Choudhary,” Anonyo said. - Raghavan Kumar
