VIJAYAWADA: Demonetisation is not only playing spoilsport with weddings but also proving to be a dampener for conventions. While some soon-to-be-couples are preferring `E-vites' to wedding cards, others have gone a step ahead with a request for only cashless' wedding gifts via Paytm or even Sodexo! If one takes a look at the E-vite of A Parthasarathy , who is getting hitched on Thursday , it reminds of the adage that necessity is the mother of invention. A visual designer by profession from, Parthasarathy , who is from Tirupati, is one of the thousands affected by the currency crisis. A few weeks before his wedding, printers refused to accept ` 500 and ` 1,000 notes. Neither did they accept other modes of payments. That was when the idea struck him. He designed his own `E-vite' with cashless gift policy. His e-vite now reads, “Blessings will be accepted through Paytm, Amazon gift cards and Sodexo.“
“I am having a tough time with wedding preparations as no one is ready to accept old notes. Some of my friends casually said I should accept gifts online. That was when I decided to go ahead with the idea,“ he said.

Needless to say , his idea not only generated interest among the attendees, but has also won the appreciation of all. “My friends and relatives are happy as they do not have to spend cash and can make online transactions for gifts,“ he added.

Interestingly , the trend is catching up across the state. Wedding invitation printers said that similar requests are only gro wing by the day in Tirupati, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and other cities. “We see a spurt in the requests to add online gift acceptance in the wedding cards. The weddings will go on till December second week and we are expecting to have more such requests till then,“ said

G Ganesh

, a designer at a private printing house in Patamata.

The wedding planners too have jumped into the scene, suggesting to families various online gifting ideas.

“We were told by our wedding planner about the option and it sounded interesting. It will definitely be a hassle-free process, but we are yet to take a decision on it,“ said

B Sailaja

, who is getting married in Vijayawada on December 10.
