Visakhapatnam: The Vizag city police achieved a significant milestone in terms of crime prevention and detection. The police recovered stolen goods, including gold, cash, bikes, mobile phones, and valuables worth over Rs1.13 crore in March 2026.
City police chief Dr Shankabrata Bagchi said a total of 77 property offences were reported in Vizag city in March 2026. The police have detected 67 cases, arrested 83 property offenders, recovered over 926 gms of gold ornaments, over 3.5 kgs of silver ornaments, over Rs 4.7 lakh cash, 12 bikes, one auto-rickshaw, one lorry and 312 (missing and stolen) mobile phones, all worth over Rs 1.13 crore from the offenders. The police handed over stolen property to the owners during the recovery mela on Thursday.
A total of 9,899 mobile phones (stolen and lost phones) worth Rs 14.84 crore were recovered in the past two years in Vizag city. The police stated that to prevent future crimes, they have implemented a multi-faceted approach, installed 656 CCTV cameras across the city in March, significantly enhancing surveillance capabilities.
The department also conducted 333 crime awareness meetings to educate the public about criminal activities and prevention strategies in March. The police have decided to intensify the special patrolling teams during the summer vacation and drone-based patrolling to prevent the possible property offences.
