Vijayawada: Pulivendula police have booked two officers — an assistant sub-inspector and a retired additional superintendent of police — for allegedly filing a false case against Dr YS Sunitha, daughter of former minister YS Vivekananda Reddy, and her husband Narreddy Rajasekhar Reddy. The case accused them of threatening witnesses in the Viveka murder case to issue statements against Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy and others. The complaint also named then CBI SP Ram Singh.
According to Pulivendula DSP Murali Naik, the accused officers are Ramakrishna Reddy, currently serving as ASI at Rajupalem police station, and retired ASP Rajeshwar Reddy. The case was registered on Friday night, based on findings from a departmental inquiry ordered by the state government.
The Supreme Court had recently quashed the false case, strongly criticising the misuse of police machinery during the previous YSR Congress Party regime. Following the court's remarks, the state government directed the Pulivendula DSP to initiate an internal probe.
The probe team examined 22 witnesses, including police officials, suspects, and others linked to the case. The inquiry found that ASI Ramakrishna Reddy was absent from duty at the time and allegedly convened officers at his residence to facilitate the registration of the false case. ASP Rajeshwar Reddy was also found to have played an active role.
Based on the findings, Pulivendula police have registered a case against both officers and filed a closure report before the local court.
