Energy consumption goes up in AP, says special chief secy

Vijayawada: Special chief secretary (energy) K Vijayanand said that per capita energy consumption of the state has increased to 1,357 kWh in FY23 from 1,234 kWh in FY19.He said that about 10 percent rise in per capita electricity consumption is a significant indicator of improved living standards and overall well-being for citizens of the state. He said that AP power distribution sector has made good progress during 2023 as they have completed installation of 51 lakh smart meters to electricity consumers with consumption of more than 200 units per month.He advised officials to continue their consistent efforts for providing 24x7 quality power supply in 2024. Special chief secretary released the new year diaries and calendars of power utilities (APTRANSCO, APGENCO, APEPDCL, APSPDCL, APCPDCL, AP Solar power Corporation) at a private convention centre in Vijayawada on Thursday. APCPDCL fourth anniversary celebrations were also held on the occasion. AP Transco JMD (vigilance & security), B Malla Reddy, CMDs of discoms I Prudhvi Tej, K Santosha Rao and former J Padma Janardhana Reddy, MD AP Solar power, Kamalakar babu participated in the programme.Speaking on the occasion, Vijayanand said that works to the tune of Rs. 13,000 crore have been initiated in all the three discoms under the Revamped Distribution Sector scheme (RDSS).He said that around 484 Nos of 33/11 KV substations were established and discoms are focusing on AT and C losses as well in the last four years.“AP discoms reported one of the lowest AT&C losses in the country at 10.60% for FY23. Utilities should target and make efforts for reduction of at least 1 per cent losses every year,” said Vijayanand.
