Bharat Kumar, a second year BCom student at
KBN College
in the city, has won the bronze medal in the Asia Classic and Equipped
Powerlifting
and Bench Press Championships-2021, organised by the Asian Powerlifting Federation at Istanbul.
Bharat Kumar was received at Gannavaram airport on Thursday and a welcome rally was held at KBN College. Endowments minister Vellampalli Srinivas and the college management felicitated Bharat Kumar. Srinivas hailed the success of Bharat Kumar and said he had made the city proud.
Speaking to TOI, Bharat said he came from a poor family and he never considered participating in international tournaments until he joined college. “My family’s support and encouragement from the college helped me achieve this. I can perform well and win many medals if given better training and guidance,” he said.
