Two held for revolver theft
Vijayawada: Successfully cracking two cases, the city police on Tuesday arrested two persons in connection with the theft of a brief case containing a .32 licensed revolver, 33 bullets, xerox copies of some documents and some cash apart from taking into custody six others for illegal transport of explosives.
Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, joint city police commissioner P Hari Kumar said in the first case, a brief case belonging to Sasi Kumar, a mining businessman and brother of MLC Ramachandraiah, who visited the city a week ago, was stolen by his driver Madanmohan and his friend Venkata Reddy. The incident happened when Sasi Kumar and his gunman went into a house near milk factory.
"Sasi Kumar recruited Madanmohan as his driver on May 31, 2016. Madanmohan though the brief case would contain a huge amount of money. However, when he found the revolver and the bullets, he was panicked and dumped the brief case in a sump at Krishna Canal railway station, took the cash and fled the scene," Hari Kumar said.
He said the revolver, 30 bullets and Rs 1,000 were recovered.
The Jt CP said the police arrested six persons in another case related to illegal transportation of explosives to quarries. A case was registered against them under section 9B of the Explosives Act, 1884.
He said 10 tonnes of 400 explosives boxes used for blasting in quarries. The accused - owner of Modern Crushers Thotakura Purnachandra Rao, owner of Eswar Enterprises Cherukuri Ramakrishna, lorry driver R Pochayya, supervisor of Eswar Enterprises Kanneganti Srinivasa Rao, short range firer Y Pichi Reddy and M V Prasad - were taken into police custody.
Hari Kumar said the consignment was meant for Eswar Enterprises at Tiruvur. But, they were unloaded at three unlicensed quarries at Paritala in a brazen violation of the laws.
