Tirupati: In a boost to animal welfare and religious tradition, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) received a donation of 1,600 tonnes of dry fodder on Sunday. The contribution, transported in a convoy of 180 lorries, is aimed at supporting the thousands of cattle currently housed within TTD’s various Goshalas.
TTD additional executive officer CH Venkaiah Chowdary lauded the donor’s initiative, describing cow protection as a sacred service deeply rooted in Indian culture. He urged the public to view the preservation of cattle not just as a duty, but as a movement that every citizen should become part of. He praised the donors for their logistical efforts, noting that this marks the first time such an unprecedented scale of donation has been made to the Tirupati trust.
The fodder will be strategically distributed among TTD’s network of shelters, including those located in Tirupati, Tirumala, Palamaneru, and Kamalayyagaripalli near Bakarapeta. These facilities currently maintain a total of 2,974 cows, bulls, and calves.
The donation drive was carried out by TTD board member Jyothula Nehru, in coordination with the Nehru Foundation and the Srinivasa Seva Trust, led by xhairman Sri T Satyanarayana.
Jyothula Nehru highlighted the growth of this annual service activity, noting that the contribution has grown from 38 lorries last year to 180 lorries now. He expressed gratitude to the farmers of Jaggampeta in Kakinada district, who provided the fodder free of cost.
Board members Panabaka Lakshmi, Janaki Devi, G Bhanu Prakash Reddy, N Sadashiva Rao, Shanta Ram and Darshan were present.
