Telugu Ganga water for Chandragiri villages
Tirupati: The state
The move is aimed to mitigate the drinking water problems faced by several villages in the perennially drought-hit district of Chittoor.
Following a representation from Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, who is also the chairman of Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA), the government passed the order to release the water from the Telugu Ganga project to meet the drinking water needs of Settipalli, Padmavathipuram, Sai Nagar, Avilala, Vedantapuram, Peruru, Tiruchanoor and Tummalagunta gram panchayats.
Bhaskar Reddy, who is also the government whip in the assembly, expressed his thanks to chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy for providing a permanent solution to the drinking water woes faced by the people of Chandragiri constituency which continues to reel under extreme drought conditions year after year.
He also took a dig at TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu for not trying to alleviate the drinking water problems of the area during his 14-year-long stint as chief minister of the state.
“Chief minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy understands the sufferings of people and takes prompt decisions to mitigate their problems. People of Chandragiri have staged several protests for more than three decades to address their drinking water problems, but successive governments didn’t pay any heed to their appeals. Now they will receive 368 crore litres of assured water supply from the Telugu Ganga project every year,” he said.
