VIJAYAWADA: Former chief minister and TDP president
N Chandrababu Naidu said that his party will stand with the Muslim community on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) issue. Naidu said that the party will not take any decision that will act against the interests of Muslims.
Naidu met leaders of Muslim community and religious heads at the party office here on Wednesday. Naidu said that the party will protect their interests.
"We will not go against your interests.
We will stand by your sentiments with regard to UCC and raise voice in parliament," said Naidu.
He said that the party would study the proposed Bill after it was introduced in the parliament and act according to the aspirations of the Muslim community. He said that there was no question of backing any Bill that goes against the sentiments of Muslims. He recalled that it was the TDP which implemented the preachings of Quran in giving the property rights to women. He said that it was his government which constructed Haj House in Hyderabad and granted separate medical and engineering colleges to Muslim community when the party was in power.
He said that TDP had worked for the welfare and development of Muslims even when they were part of NDA. He said that he proposed P-4 policy only to alleviate poverty particularly among Muslims.
