TDP man injured, YSRCP leaders' offices attacked
VIJAYAWADA: A TDP supporter sustained severe injuries in an attack by YSRCP cadres at Duggirala in Guntur district during victory celebrations of TDP on Tuesday evening. After the counting process ended, YSRCP supporters Kamal (25), Hridaya Raju (60), and Harsha Vardhan (25) picked up an argument with Shaik Kasim (24), a bike mechanic in the locality. The trio, who were allegedly in an inebriated state, attacked Kasim with a cricket bat, injuring him severely.
Kasim was rushed to NRI hospital in Mangalagiri by family members, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is said to be critical. Police have registered a case against the absconding accused trio.
In related incidents, several TDP supporters were booked by police for vandalising the offices of former minister Vidudala Rajini and MLC Lella Appireddy in Guntur on Tuesday afternoon (counting day) as results pointed to a thumping win for the NDA alliance in the state. Stones were also pelted at former minister Perni Nani's house in Machilipatnam.
Appireddy's office lodged a complaint with Pattabhipuram police in Guntur, alleging that stones were pelted at the YSRCP leader's office which broke several window panes. Property was also damaged at the office. Another complaint was filed by a YSRCP worker who was at Rajini's office when it was attacked. Police have registered cases against several people, believed to be TDP supporters.
Soon after the counting trends predicted a big win for the NDA, several TDP workers gathered outside the office of Rajini on Guntur ring road and the office of MLC Appireddy opposite NTR Stadium. They pelted stones, reportedly in retaliation to the vandalism of TDP state office three years ago when YSRCP was in power. Initially, TDP supporters paid tributes at NTR statue at Saibaba road junction and celebrated their victory before throwing stones at Rajini’s office.
The stone pelting shattered the windows of her office. Noticing the situation getting out of control, police conducted a mild lathicharge. Police managed to get the situation under control and set up barricades to prevent anyone from approaching Rajini’s office. A stone pelting incident also occurred near ex-minister Perni Nani’s house in Machilipatnam on Tuesday evening
