Vijayawada: A tragic road accident in the United States claimed the life of a young student from Andhra Pradesh, leaving her family in deep shock and grief. Navya Neelakuditi, a 23-year-old from Guntur district, died on April 9 after battling critical injuries sustained in a crash.
Navya moved to the US last year to pursue her master's degree, carrying the hopes of her family for a better future. The accident occurred when she was returning from a job interview in Michigan. The car she was travelling in reportedly met with an accident near Pittsburgh. She was rushed to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, where she underwent three major surgeries. Despite the doctors' efforts, she succumbed to her injuries.
Her death devastated her family, particularly her parents, who are farmers and had invested their life savings in her education. In a bid to bring her mortal remains back to India and clear mounting medical expenses, her relative Sirisha Neelakuditi, based in Texas, initiated a fundraising campaign. The response was overwhelming, with over $85,000 raised so far.
Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS) responded promptly and took up the matter with the Indian Embassy in the United States, requesting speedy repatriation of Navya's mortal remains to her hometown.
