The new facility was inaugurated by minister Rajani and health commissioner J Nivas on Saturday.

A leading corporate hospital SHRI of Guntur has come forward to join hands with the state government to take up the Smart ICU project on a pilot basis. The new project has been designed with ultra-modern integrated technology to save patients in critical condition even in rural settings.

“It is a novel technology, where automation, integration and collaboration come together dedicatedly to keep patients alive even in remote rural healthcare institutions. Once the patient enters the emergency room, and as soon as credentials are entered, their health condition is immediately captured by this novel integrated technology and the data of their health status is continuously streamed to the higher centre. The Intensivist/ super-specialists at higher centres, can in turn evaluate the data that and make suggestions through live to the doctors/ medical team in the primary health without shifting patients in the critical condition,” explained Dr K Kalyan Chakravarthy, director of SHRI hospital group, which took up the Live ICU project at government hospital in Chilakaluripet.

He said that intensivist/super-specialists can be approached round the clock which could save several lives in critical conditions. It would also help the doctors in rural areas to manage the patients.

“An inbuilt machine learning and AI model called deterioration index, which helps in identifying patients who are worsening earlier than they recognised by clinical evaluation/regular rounds. This is going to be a game-changer in the healthcare sector,” observed Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy. As the majority of the critical patients are being shifted from rural health centres to referral hospitals for further management during crucial time, it is becoming extremely difficult to save the lives due to loss of crucial hours in journey, he felt. He said that initial resuscitation and managing the patients in critical conditions through Smart ICU coming with AI would be possible despite the patient being located in a remote area healthcare centre. The pilot project was taken up by Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy of SHRI hospital which initially supports four emergency beds, costing 25 lakhs per annum including establishmen
