TIRUPATI: A suspect in the recent

signature

forgery case attempted to commit suicide after being questioned by the police at Chinnamandem in Kadapa district on Saturday. It may be recalled that Teneti Vanitha,

minister

for women development and child welfare, had lodged a complaint with home minister M Sucharitha and DGP Gautam Sawang two days back, alleging

forgery

of her official letterhead and signature by a person from Kadapa.

In her complaint, Vanitha stated that one M Reddeppa of Devalampeta village in Chinnamandem mandal of Kadapa district had submitted a forged letter to the district collector seeking 1.2 acres of government land to set up a small-scale industry. Following the complaint, Chinnamandem police registered a case against M Reddeppa who is absconding. Meanwhile, the police summoned Kiran, a close associate of Reddeppa, for questioning on Saturday.

“He pleaded not guilty and requested us to allow him to stay at his home as there was a possibility Reddeppa could get in touch with him. So we allowed him to go back but sent a police constable with him to keep watch,” the police said, adding that Kiran and Reddeppa had approached the minister together and that he was very much a part of the forgery.

After Kiran reached his home in Devalampeta village, he tried to commit suicide by consuming hair dye. However, the alert police constable immediately rushed the suspect to a nearby hospital. He is now recovering and out of danger, police said.
