Vijayawada: In a remarkable display of promptness and compassion, the ticket-checking staff of the Vijayawada division of South Central Railway ensured the safe handling of a medical emergency involving a pregnant passenger aboard a moving train. The incident took place on Sunday when a pregnant woman travelling with her family in the B1 coach of train number 13352, the Alappuzha-Dhanbad Express, went into labour shortly after the train crossed Annavaram.
Her family immediately alerted the onboard ticket-checking staff, following which Vijayawada division TTI (Amenities) G Jyothi coordinated with railway authorities and arranged medical assistance through the emergency 108 ambulance service.
On the occasion, the railway officials facilitated a special halt of the train at Elamanchili station. With the coordinated efforts of the ticket-checking team, the woman and her newborn baby girl were safely shifted to the Elamanchili govt hospital for further medical care.
Hospital sources confirmed that both the mother and the infant are in stable condition and doing well.
Commending the staff for their exemplary service, Vijayawada DRM Mohit Sonakiya and senior divisional commercial manager B Pradhanth said the incident highlighted the dedication, alertness and humanitarian values upheld by frontline railway personnel.
