Vijayawada: The 1991-batch IAS officer G Sai Prasad will assume charge as the new chief secretary on Saturday. Sai Prasad is currently serving as special chief secretary, water resources department and revenue department. He is also serving as an ex officio special chief secretary to the chief minister.
The state govt confirmed the appointment of Sai Prasad as chief secretary last Nov while extending the term of incumbent chief secretary K Vijayanand until Feb.
Sai Prasad, a native of Prakasam district, is the son of a school teacher. He began his career as an assistant collector in Warangal (1992-93). He later served as assistant collector in Paderu, commissioner of Guntur Municipal Corporation, joint collector of Kadapa, and collector of Kurnool and Chittoor districts.
He also held key positions in the power sector, serving as joint managing director of AP Transco, CMD of AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) and AP Central Power Distribution Company Limited (APCPDCL), and vice-chairman of AP Housing Board.
Sai Prasad also worked as joint secretary in the Union ministry of power between 2011 and 2014. He later served as secretary and principal secretary to the chief minister from 2014 to 2019. Sai Prasad held key positions during the YSRCP regime as CMD of AP Solar Power Corporation, CMD of AP Genco, and ex officio principal secretary (energy) for two years.
Subsequently, he played a key role in bringing reforms in the revenue wing during his term as chief commissioner of land administration (CCLA) and special secretary of revenue for over two years. After the regime change, Sai Prasad was shifted to the water resources department as special chief secretary. He was given an additional charge as revenue special chief secretary.
