RRR torture case: CID ex-DIG Sunil Naik grilled for 4 hours
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh police questioned Bihar cadre IPS officer and former AP CID deputy inspector general of police M Sunil Kumar Naik for four hours in connection with the alleged custodial torture case involving former Narsapur MP and current assembly deputy speaker Kanumuru Raghu Rama Krishnam Raju, in Vizianagaram on Sunday.Sunil Kumar Naik, director of fire services of Bihar, was questioned by Vizianagaram superintendent of police A R Damodar, the investigating officer in the case, at the Mahila police station in Vizianagaram.A case was registered at Nagarampalem police station following a complaint from Raghuram Krishnam Raju alleging custodial torture during the YSRCP regime.Raju was arrested in May 2021 from his residence in Hyderabad when he was serving as the Narsapur MP. Raju was later shifted to the CID regional office in Guntur, where he was reportedly kept overnight, where he was allegedly subjected to custodial torture by CID officials headed by former chief P V Sunil Kumar and others.AP police questioned Sunil Naik over registering cases against two Telugu news TV channels during the erstwhile YSRCP regime. Though all Telugu news channels telecast the alleged hate speeches of Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, Sunil Naik registered cases against only two news channels, citing that those channels telecast for more hours.
"We have also questioned Sunil Naik over the alleged conspiracy in torture of Raghu Rama Krishnam Raju," Damodhar added.Though the police asked several questioned related to conspiracy, including failed to arrange a doctor while Raju (who underwent a surgery in 2021) was arrested and shifting from Hyderabad to Guntur and failed to arrange CCTV cameras while interrogating Raju, Sunil Naik apparently didn't answer to the questions.AP high court reserved its orders on the anticipatory bail petition filed bySunil Kumar Naik, adjourning the matter to April 6 after hearing detailed arguments from both sides.
