Vijayawada: In the wake of heavy rains, municipal commissioner G Veerapandian has instructed corporation officials to set up caution boards immediately wherever road expansion works are going on. Amidst an inspection of different areas here on Thursday, he told officials: "As the roads are dug up at several places, arrange boards so that the commuters are aware of the pits."

The commissioner took senior engineers to task when he noticed water logging in several parts of the city. He directed the officials to immediately take steps to clear water on roads. "Permanent arrangements are to be made to stop rainwater from causing large-scale inundation ," he emphasised.

Later, Veerapandian directed the officials to invite tenders for developing greenery as part of city beautification. He asked the officials to plant more trees along the divider on the road leading from Ramavarappadu to Gannavaram airport. "The divider along the stretch of MG road between PWD grounds and the state guest house and also the divider between Kanaka Durga Varadhi and Ramavarappadu should be similarly beautified," he emphasised.

Earlier in the day, the commissioner convened a meeting to review Pushkarams works. "Invite tenders for the pending works immediately. Take the help of experts in urban infrastructure development, transport and information technology to complete the work at the earliest," he suggested.

Additional commissioner (general) P Arun Babu, VMC chief medical officer of health Dr M Gopi Naik, chief engineer Md Shukoor, assistant director of horticulture GP Anand were among those present.
