Vijayawada: A 4-year-old girl from Pedaparupudi mandal was allegedly sexually assaulted by a close relative earlier this month, police said. The accused was arrested, and a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Addressing a press conference at the Pamarru police station, Gudivada DSP V Dheeraj Vinil said the incident occurred on the evening of Feb 7. According to the preliminary investigation, the child's mother left for her parental home on Feb 5, following family disputes. During this period, a close relative allegedly assaulted the minor after bathing her.

The matter came to light after the mother returned and the child disclosed the incident. A complaint was lodged at the Pedaparupudi police station on Feb 14. The police promptly registered a case under relevant sections of the
POCSO Act.
Vinil said the accused was taken into custody, and Pamarru circle inspector Subhakar is leading the investigation. Police are collecting medical and forensic evidence and recording statements to ensure a strong court case. The accused was arrested and remanded by the magistrate.
