Principal from AP stabbed to death by student in Assam

VIJAYAWADA: The principal of a private college, who was stabbed to death by a class 11 student inside the classroom in Sivasagar district of Assam last Saturday, hailed from Ongole in Prakasam district.

The 55-year-old Rajesh taught chemistry in the college besides managing the school. The body was brought to Ongole where it was cremated on Monday evening.

According to police, Rajesh was stabbed by a 16-year-old student after he reprimanded the latter over his poor academic performance.

Family members of Rajesh said after serving as a chemistry lecturer at a private junior college in Vizag city for over a decade, he and his friends started a private coaching centre in Sivasagar district of Assam about a decade ago.

Later it was converted into a junior college. Rajesh's wife Aparna is the director of the college, where he was the principal.

Police said Rajesh and the college's mathematics lecturer scolded the accused student over his poor performance in mathematics and asked him to bring his parents to the college.

Following this, the student left the premises and later returned after changing his uniform. He took a seat on the last bench in the next period. When Rajesh spotted him and asked him to leave the class, he attacked him with a knife and stabbed him multiple times.

Rajesh was rushed to a hospital in critical condition where doctors declared him brought dead. Meanwhile, police reached the spot, recovered the knife and arrested the student. Rajesh is survived by his wife and two kids. His mourning friends and family members said he was brilliant in academics and his style of teaching was impressive.
