Pharmacy Council president summoned

Vijayawada: The high court on Thursday directed the president of Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) to appear before it in a contempt petition.
The managements of pharmacy colleges moved the high court challenging the hike in college recognition fee by PCI by three times to the existing fee. In March, the high court had passed interim orders to follow the fee structure of 2018.
The college managements again moved the high court with a contempt petition contending that the orders of the court have not been implemented by the PCI. Arguing on behalf of the petitioners, M Vijay told the high court that the PCI did not take any decision to implement the orders of the high court.
He said that the managements are still not being allowed to pay the fee on PCI website. Considering the averments of the colleges in contempt petition, Justice G Ramakrishna Prasad directed the president of PCI to appear in person before the high court to explain as to why the high court orders were not implemented.
Further hearing of the matter has been posted to July 14.
