Police inspector’s mother murdered by her neighbour

Vijayawada: A 62-year-old woman, who was the mother of a police inspector, was murdered by her neighbour in Madanapalle town of Annamayya district. The body of N Swarna Kumari, who was missing for the last few days, was found buried on the outskirts of the town. She was the mother of Nagendra Prasad, circle inspector of Dharmavaram One Town police station in Sri Satya Sai district. The accused, identified as Venkatesh, and the victim's neighbour, has been arrested. According to Kala Venkataramana, inspector of Madanapalle taluka police station, Swarna Kumari, who lived alone in YS Jagan colony on the outskirts of the town, went missing on the morning of September 29 when she accompanied Venkatesh on his bike to visit a priest on Punganur road. Venkatesh took advantage of the situation and murdered her.Police said after killing the woman, Venkatesh buried the body at a graveyard. A friend of Swarna Kumari, who had called her that day, only heard a call-forwarding message and assumed that she may have gone to some temple due to her strong religious beliefs.The victim's disappearance came to light when she failed to return home and did not collect her pension on October 1. Locals informed Nagendra Prasad, who travelled to Madanapalle to search for his mother. Unable to find any trace of her, he filed a complaint at Madanapalle Taluka police station. Venkatesh, who was absconding, was arrested from Bengaluru on Monday. He confessed to killing the woman and burying her body. It is suspected that a dispute over a large sum of money lent by Swarna Kumari to Venkatesh could have been the motive behind the murder. Further investigation is on.
