Vijayawada: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught a municipal official red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹60,000 in Bapatla district on Monday. The accused, Shaikh Imam, serving as a Revenue Inspector (RI) in the Bapatla Municipal Corporation, was trapped by ACB officials at a tea stall in Muthaiyapalem on Suryalanka Road.
According to sources, Imam allegedly demanded bribe in exchange for clearing official work related to municipal matters. Victims approached ACB seeking action against the corrupt official. Acting on a complaint, the ACB laid a well-planned trap and apprehended him while he was receiving the cash.
The operation was led by a DSP cadre official along with a team of four circle inspectors, who coordinated the raid meticulously. Following his arrest, Shaikh Imam was taken to the municipal administrative office for further questioning.
ACB officials also launched simultaneous searches at the Bapatla Municipal Corporation office to examine related records and identify any wider irregularities. The investigation is currently underway, and officials indicated that more details could emerge as the probe progresses.
