Visakhapatnam: The Union and AP governments have been according the highest priority to the empowerment, safety and security of women, said Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao. On Tuesday, the MLA, along with GVMC commissioner Ketan Garg, laid the foundation stone for a working women's hostel near Madhurawada. The project is being taken up under the scheme for special assistance to states for capital investment 2024–25 by the Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited, at a cost of Rs 26.12 crore.
Rao said Visakhapatnam has many working women. "To ensure their safety and welfare, three working women's hostels have been sanctioned for Visakhapatnam, with a total funding of Rs 172 crore from the Centre and the state government. One hostel is already under construction in Gajuwaka, while foundation work has been completed for another hostel at Mudasaralova. The Madhurawada hostel will be built with G+4 floors, 96 rooms, and accommodation for 248 women," he said.

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg said the construction of all three hostels is being carried out through the Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation. He credited Visakhapatnam MP M.
Sribharat for his efforts in securing approvals for the projects.
"The hostels will provide facilities such as parking, gardens, a kitchen, indoor games, a yoga hall, gym, library, medical room, warden's room, a rooftop café, and other essential amenities. With Visakhapatnam emerging as a hub for IT, education, healthcare and other industries, the hostels will offer safe and convenient accommodation for working women," the commissioner said.
