Vijayawada: Minor raped, mom taken into custody

VIJAYAWADA

: A woman forced her 14-year-old

daughter

to be raped by a 50-year-old man at her residence in Paritala village in

Krishna district

on Thursday.

The incident came to light on Friday after the girl’s grandmother approached the police with the victim and lodged a complaint against the woman.

According to

Kanchikacherla

sub-inspector Sri Hari, the incident took place on Thursday night. The accused had been a financial support to the victim’s family after her father abandoned the family.

“He had an eye on the victim for a while now. In a bid to ensure that his support continues, the

mother

forced the 14-year-old against her wishes to submit herself,” Sri Hari told TOI.

A case under relevant sections of POCSO Act has been registered against the accused. Cops said that the accused is on the run and a team is trying to track his whereabouts. Meanwhile, cops have taken the mother into custody and sent the victim to a local government hospital for treatment.
