Minor delivers baby in washroom of govt hostel, infant dies, police begin probe

VIJAYAWADA: A 16-year-old girl studying intermediate first year gave birth to a baby boy in the bathroom of the government girl’s hostel of Balika Vidyalaya in Prakasam district on Wednesday. The newborn died after a few minutes of the birth.
The student had been reporting stomach pain and she went to the washroom of the hostel, where she gave birth to a baby.The incident took place on Wednesday, when the student did not return to class after an extended period, prompting her classmates to alert the teachers.
The staff of the Vidyalaya stated that they were unaware of the student’s pregnancy and it was only when she didn’t return to the class that they realized what had happened. The student was shifted to a hospital in Ongole for treatment.
The police said that staff of the Vidyalaya noticed that the girl had not come out of the washroom for a long time. When the staff went to the washroom, they found the baby boy lying dead beside her. The Chimakurthy police have registered a case and the investigation is on to nab the man who is responsible for the girl’s pregnancy.
