Vizianagaram: An 18-year-old girl suffered stab injuries after a masked man intruded into her house at Sivaram village of Garividi mandal in Vizianagaram district on Saturday afternoon. The incident has sent shock waves in the village.
Vizianagaram district police chief Vakul Jindal said alleged sexual jealousy was the suspected reason for the attack.
The locals said a masked man went to the girl's house and stabbed her two times with a knife when she was cleaning kitchen utensils. Despite being severely injured, the victim managed to remove the mask of the man, come out of the house, and raised an alarm. The incident took place when the girl and her grandmother were at home while her parents had gone for work. The unknown person fled from the scene after the attack.
Though few persons in the locality chased and tried to nab the accused, their efforts proved futile. The locals found a knife and mask, which appears to have been left behind by the assailant at the crime scene.
The locals rushed to the spot and shifted the injured girl to a government hospital for treatment.
Later, the victim was shifted to a private hospital in Vizianagaram town, where her condition is said to be stable.
After visiting the crime scene, Vakul Jindal said they have formed a special team to nab the accused. Based on the information from the locals, we have taken three suspects into custody for interrogation, he added.
According to the locals, the accused was a tall masked man.
It may be recalled a person identified as D Naveen caused severe stab injuries to 20-year-old N Deepika with whom he reportedly was in a relationship and murdered her mother N Lakshmi at Swayamkrushinagar of Kommadi locality under PM Palem police station limits in Vizag city on April 2. Naveen broke into Deepika's house for rejecting his marriage proposal and committed the crime. The accused was arrested in Srikakulam district a few hours after committing the crime.
