Lose tender if you miss deadline, govt warns Amaravati contractors
Vijayawada: Putting officials and contractors on notice, municipal administration minister P Narayana warned that the govt will cancel tenders and reassign projects if deadlines fixed by chief minister Chandrababu Naidu are missed. Stressing urgency, he said the first phase of works must be completed by August 2026, with the second phase slated for 2028.Reviewing Amaravati's construction progress on Wednesday, Narayana directed agencies to accelerate execution and avoid complacency. "The chief minister is very particular about timelines. We need to pick up speed as only three months remain before the monsoon," he said, making it clear that delays will not be tolerated. The minister held a detailed review with officials and stakeholders, including AGICL managing director Srinivas, engineers and representatives of contracting firms. Discussions focused on completing several buildings within this month and handing them over to the govt at the earliest. Narayana emphasised that staff quarters must be prioritised and finished in the first phase without fail. The govt is building 4,026 houses in Amaravati for public representatives, officials and employees, and any delay would affect administrative readiness in the capital region.
He also reviewed provision of basic infrastructure — roads, water supply, drainage and electricity — in areas where tower construction is nearing completion. Narayana instructed officials to ensure supporting infrastructure is developed in parallel so that buildings are ready for occupation immediately after completion. It may be recalled that chief minister Naidu recently expressed serious displeasure over missed timelines during a high-level review. He directed departments including municipal administration, CRDA, mines and geology, electricity, water resources and panchayat raj to coordinate effectively, streamline approvals and ensure uninterrupted supply of construction materials to fast-track Amaravati works.GFX4,026 staff houses flagged as top priorityDeadline for construction of 4,026 govt quarters: April-end 2026Unit breakdown1,968 flats for NGOs1,440 flats for gazetted officers & Group D employees25 bungalows for secretaries35 bungalows for ministers288 flats for MLAs/MLCs144 flats for AIS officersProgress statusWorks progressing at a rapid pace as of April first weekHigh-level inspections at minister bungalows in Rayapudi and staff housing in NelapaduInfra pushParallel development of roads, drainage and utilitiesSeveral pending works expedited to overcome earlier delays
