Lady professor injured in scuffle over taking charge at college in Guntur

VIJAYAWADA: A lady professor who was about to take charge as in-charge principal of Andhra Christian Law college in Guntur was attacked by former principal’s brother at the college on Saturday.
According to police, Dr. Guravaiah, who was the principal, was removed from his post by the college management a few months ago. However, a court ordered that he be reinstated as principal.Following this, he took charge as the principal again a few days ago. The college management again approached the court alleging that Guravaiah was involved in corruption. Subsequently, the court ordered an inquiry and also ordered that he cannot continue as principal during investigation. The management decided to appoint vice-principal Amrutha Varshini as in-charge principal.
On Saturday, when Amrutha Varshini went to college to take charge, she saw Guruvaiah in the principal’s chamber, and asked him to leave the room. Enraged, Guruvaiah broke his own mobile phone and verbally abused Amrutha Varshini. Later, she went to college correspondent Gaddam Elisha and explained the incident to her. However, Elisha instructed Amrutha Varshini to take charge as in-charge principal. Meanwhile, Guruvaiah’s brother Venkateswarlu reached the college and assaulted Amrutha Varshini while she was taking charge in the principal’s chamber. She sustained minor injuries on head and hand.
The victim was rushed to Guntur government hospital for treatment. She lodged a complaint with police. She requested police to provide her protection and take strict action against Guravaiah and Venkateshwarlu.
However, Guruvaiah told police that when his brother Venkateshwarlu came to the college to meet him, Amrutha Varshini attacked him and the incident was recorded in the college’s CCTV camera.
Kothapet police who received complaints from both parties, registered cases and launched an investigation.
