WARANAGAL:
Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) founder-president M
Kodandaram and CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy were detained when they observed a 'Sadak Bandh' at Elkaturthy in the district on Thursday. Kodandaram and scores of TJS and CPI activists staged the dharna on the Elkaturthy-Warangal highway demanding MSP for farmers.
With the protest disrupting vehicular traffic on the highway, Hasanparthy police rushed to the spot and urged them to end their agitation.
However, with the protesters unrelenting, they were taken to Hasanparthy police station and released after some time.
Speaking to the media later, Kodandaram demanded that the state government supply quality seeds and fertilizers on subsidy to farmers. He said that state government employees were demanding bribes from farmers to correct their land purification records. According to Kodandaram, the Rythu Bandhu scheme favoured only landlords and the real estate lobby and urged it to include tenant farmers in the scheme.
