Kakinada woman dies of suspected anuria, milk vendor arrested
Rajahmundry: The police on Sunday took a milk vendor into custody after an old woman from Rajahmundry died due to alleged anuria (unable to pass urine) in the Government General Hospital, Kakinada. The anuria is linked to alleged adulteration of milk. As many as four people have been admitted to hospital with complain of anuria. Incidentally, the milk vendor is same for all these families.It is yet to be established that anuria cases are linked to adulteration of milk, though doctors suspect that it is caused by adulterants in the milk. The police have launched investigation after locals alleged adulteration of the milk supplied to them and sudden emergence of anuria cases.
One T Krishnaveni (75), native of Lalacheruvu area in Rajahmundry was admitted in the GGH, Rajahmundry on February 18 with the symptoms of vomiting and urine obstruction. As the lab reports were abnormal, she was shifted to GGH, Kakinada. She died on Sunday. As the news of anuria spread in Lalacheruvu area, a medico legal case was registered and her body was brought to GGH, Rajahmundry for post-mortem. Talking to the TOI, superintendent, GGH, Kakinada, Dr Komala, said that the cause of death would be revealed only after the post-mortem. Superintendent of GGH, Rajahmundry, Dr PVV Satyannarayana, said that they are waiting for the post-mortem report to confirm the cause of death.Meanwhile, another woman by name, Kanaka Rathnam (70), died in the hospital with similar symptoms on February 20. However, the DM&HO, East Godavari, Dr Ventateswara Rao, made it clear that it was not the death caused by anuria and added that her family members have confirmed that she was having other ailments too.Meanwhile, East Godavari district health department is on alert as cases of anuria emerged in some areas of Rajahmundry. According to Dr K Venkateswara Rao, the management of KIMS hospital has informed that four cases of anuria were registered from Choudeswari Nagar and Swaroop Nagar areas under Lalacheruvu area in the city. Surveillance officer has started inquiry immediately. As per the directions of East Godavari district collector Keerthi Chekuri, a rapid response team has been set up and comprehensive epidemiological and clinical inquiry have been taken up. Samples of food, water and stool have been collected that sent to the laboratory and for forensic examination.
